Howdy, and welcome, those of you who have traveled by way of the Band of Dystopian 3rd Annual Zombie Crawl. I’m super excited to be involved in it this year, because I adore this group, and I’ve also got a very special exclusive sneak peek planned for you hungry travelers.

Make sure to read all the way to the end! There, you’ll find details on how to enter my giveaway, a link to snag a free book from me, and a list of all participating blogs for this year’s zombie crawl.

A lot of you may know me as the author of the YA Dystopian Scifi Treemakers Trilogy. You may also know that I have an obsession with zombies as well as all things end-of-days. Some of you may be waiting patiently (or not so patiently😉 ) for the final installment of said trilogy, which will be available for preorder on Halloween (Yay!).

What you may not know yet is what’s on the horizon for me once this trilogy is complete.

One guess.

If you said zombies, it’s probably because it’s pretty damn obvious. Haha

Of course, this is me we’re talking about, so don’t expect your normal, everyday zombie story.

I’ve been working on a handful of stories over the past two years, a few of which I’ve decided to move up on my runway. The one I’ll publish by next Halloween is titled “Breakout,” and it features a convict named Corey Meyers. I’ll be publishing this one under C.L. Rozelle to differentiate my YA work from my adult. After “Breakout,” I’ll be working on an intense NA zombie story, which I’ll publish under my full name. So, stay tuned for loads of zombie awesomeness from yours truly, beginning next year.

Teaser, followed by excerpt from “Breakout”

When the shouting and gunfire had moved off, I peeked over the counter and out through the window. No one in sight.

I scanned the switchboard until I found the one marked “Emergency Alarm,” and flipped it down. The deafening blast ceased, replaced by the faraway echoes of shouting and weapons firing, the scent of blood and gunpowder in the air. I realized then I was in the middle of a war zone.

“Meyers,” a voice whispered, scaring the shit out of me.

I peered into the shadows where Driggs was slumped against the wall in a dark corner.

I moved to his side. “Driggs, what’s happening?”

“You get it, and . . . a week later, you do this . . . to people.” He cocked his head to show me the crater in his pale neck, its sticky wetness shining black in the pulsating emergency lights.

“Damn, dude . . . like zombies and shit?”

He unstrapped his gun from its holster. “You got kids, right?”

“A daughter, yeah.” The sudden thought of Sarina brought a rush of panic. “Is it . . . out there, too?”

“Take my gun.” He tapped his holster. “Go to her.”

I hesitated for only a moment before I snatched up the gun. “Thanks, man.”

“You bet. I know . . . what you’re in here for, Corey. Losing . . . someone you love . . . can make you do . . . crazy things. Now’s your chance . . . to make up for it. Go find . . . your baby.”

“Thanks. I appreciate you saying that.”

As I held his gaze, something dawned on me: Rousseau. He could still be alive, and trapped, too.

“Driggs, where’s Rousseau?”

“Where . . . you were,” he panted. “A few . . . doors down. There’s a button . . . on the red . . . panel . . .” He moaned again, then gasped.

Again I scanned the switchboard until I found one section in the corner covered by a clear plastic box—rows of black switches protruding from a red panel marked “Emergency Release.” I raised the cover, found the ones for the solitary cells, and flipped them all in one swift motion.

“Hey, man.” Driggs chuckled.

I stopped on my way to the doorway. “Yeah?”

“Happy . . . Halloween.”

For a second I stood there, stunned. Halloween. The day the world had fallen apart and hell had come to Earth. The day I would be getting another chance at life.

I hope you enjoyed that. More to come!

  1. Done! I wouldn’t want it to happen because I would want my daughters safe, but on the other hand I do think it would bring unlikely people together, when there is still so much hate in the world.

  2. Some of the stuff I see on the internet or hear about from the news (which I never watch) prompts me to think that I would love some sort of cleansing of the earth…Not necessarily a zombie apocalypse because the evil, foolish people would still be a nuisance.
By the way, I’m not entering. This question just had me thinking this morning 😃

  3. Done. Although I’ve read, heard and watched enough stories about zombie apocalypses that I would probably survive for at least a little while, I would rather not have one in my lifetime. My son, however, can’t wait til it happens. He has it all figured out …. in theory!

  4. Done and hopefully I don’t see a zombie apocalypse in my lifetime just get to read and watch the awesome stories about what they could be like

  5. Done (already!).

I don’t like zombies – dude, there is no such thing! So, there will BE NO zombie apocalypse. Whether I want one or not.

That being said…the excert from your new novel intrigues me, and I think I will make one of my rare exceptions against reading anthing to do with zombies for that! A good story is a good story, regardless of the subject matter.

  6. I don’t want it to happen because a zombie apocalypse would be scary and I am squeamish about killing a mouse, let alone what kinda of is still a human being. And if you knew that person, that makes it even worse.

  8. Done. As far as a zombie apocalypse in my lifetime, I’d have to say I’d rather it not happen. My family (& friends who are family) is spread out to far and my grandbabies range from 2 months through 11 yrs with the majority on the younger side and i really need to know everyone is safe.

  11. Done! I think we’re already seeing an apocalypse aren’t we, with all the crazy stuff going on? I don’t know maybe I’m just too jaded.

  12. Done. Though I am following your blog under a different email address than the one that I am filling out on the details below. So I am torn on if I would want a zombie apocalypse and if I wouldn’t. I have two kids that I would have to worry about protecting so it would be hard to survivie with them. Now if I didn’t have children I would so want an apocalypse to happen because then that gives me a reason to do what I need. I know it would never be like TWD but they give some great tips on how to possibly survive.
